Marvel and DC comics have a slew of action packed flicks that will make even the oldest superhero fan feel like a kid again.
A new film franchise that is interesting is the revision of “Power Rangers”. More than 20 years ago The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers played an iconic role in pop culture. It should be amusing to see the red, blue, black, yellow and pink rangers team up to help defend the globe. But the real question is, will Tommy be back as the maverick green ranger?
Something a little more familiar to most superhero fans will be the release of “Logan”. Hugh Jackman is back for the third and final solo Wolverine film for this tenth installment of the X-Men film series. According to IMDB “In the near future, an aging Wolverine and Professor X must protect a young female clone of Wolverine from an evil organization”. A highly anticipated comedic superhero movie will be released this year as well. No not Deadpool 2 (that’s being released in 2018) but “The LEGO Batman Movie”. This flick will be a comedic gem. The premise of the movie is based around Batman heading out on an individual odyssey of sorts to find himself. “Always be yourself… unless you can be Batman” (“The LEGO Batman Movie” IMDB Taglines http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4116284/taglines?ref_=tt_stry_tg) Accessed 10 Jan. 2017.
DC Comics is gearing up to release the highly anticipated “Wonder Woman” on June 2, 2017. It will be interesting to see the classic comic-book heroine grace the silver screen in this installment of the DC Extended Universe. This film is being produced by Zack Snyder who has worked on a number of superhero films such as “Watchmen”, “Man of Steel”, and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”. The setting for this series will be based around WWI with Chris Pine co-starring as United States Air Force pilot Steve Trevor.
DC Comics adversary Marvel Comics is ready to release the third installment of “Thor: Ragnarok”. If you’ve stayed up to date the Marvel Comic Universe films, you know that Thor is currently being held prisoner on another world without his trusty hammer. We will definitely be seeing The Hulk in this movie as well a new supervillainess Hela, played by the stunning Cate Blanchett. Along with Thor, Marvel will attempt to roll out a Spider-Man series. Marvel has been trying to tie in Spider-Man to the Marvel Comic Universe for years and finally we will see the result of what is sure to be an exciting segment. The setting for this movie will feature Peter Parker as a high schooler trying to balance his social life with his superhero life.
The fifth installment of Transformers will be bringing back Michael Bay as the director, as well as Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci from the previous Autobot film “Age of Extinction”. Michael Bay has stated that this will be his last Transformers film, but that won’t stop Paramount Pictures from making an extended universe for Transformers. Don’t expect to be rid of the Autobots and Decepticons anytime soon.
If you’re a superhero fan you know that Justice League will be an exhilarating movie with loads of potential. Justice League traditionally is the team of Batman and Superman with fellow DC Comic heroes Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg. Every DC fan is circling November 17, 2017 on their calendar. Even Marvel Comics might be a little nervous of this potential blockbuster.
Lastly, we have the refreshing and exhilarating flick “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Marvel comes back with Peter Quill and the gang. We will be engaged with the Guardians as they roam through the cosmos with their action-packed antics. “Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.” (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3896198/) Accessed 10 Jan. 2017
