There are so many influential musicians and actors. However, the ones who’ve conquered both roles (and then some) should be the first to go down in history!
Music Artists/Movie Star #5: Elvis Presley
The 50’s were instantly changed when Elvis Presley introduced Rock ‘N’ Roll, along with his provocative gyrating hips and stunning good looks! In 1956, he won the hearts of all with his first #1 hit “Heartbreak Hotel”, as well as beginning his film career with Paramount Pictures. The King’s first movie, “Love Me Tender” was an instant hit. His careers were intertwined as he’d often times record the soundtracks to the movies he would be acting in. The first to do that by the way. His film career includes: ‘Blue Hawaii’, ‘Girls! Girls! Girls!’ and ‘Viva Las Vegas’. Elvis had become a master of mixing his musical and film careers. Long live the ‘King of Rock ‘N’ Roll’!
Music Artists/Movie Star #4: Frank Sinatra
Inspired by Bing Cosby, Frank Sinatra began his singing career as a teenager and was often referred to as “The Sultan of Swoon”. He had a punctured eardrum and while this made him unfit for the military, his talent never suffered. During his solo career, Sinatra charted 17 different Top 10 singles between 1943 and 1946. His film career began in ’43 as well when he performed in ‘Higher and Higher’. His film and solo music career continued to blossom as he won an Oscar for From Here to Eternity and received a new recording contract with Capitol Records. His legacy lives on and continues to inspire the actors and musicians of today. Jim Morrison said it best, “No one can touch him.”
Music Artists/Movie Star #3: Queen Latifah
As an American rapper, record producer, and actress, Queen Latifah is one of the most successful women of our time. She began as a human beat box for the rap group Ladies Fresh. She was also the first female MC to ever go gold and did so with her album “Black Reign”. After investing some money in a video store she lived above, Latifah looked into record producing. She jumped into the acting world in the 90’s with Jungle Fever. However, her acting career was cemented by her performance in Chicago, starring alongside Richard Gere and Renee Zellweger. Latifah has become a woman to be idolized and admired by conquering these industries.
Music Artists/Movie Star #2: Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake first appeared on the show Star Search in 1983. He later joined Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and J.C. Chasez on The All New Mickey Mouse Club. Justin joined NSYNC at the age of 14 alongside Chasez. However, it was not to last because in 2002, Justin released his first solo album, Justified. Having already made a name for himself as a musician, Timberlake needed more. He was an instant crowd favorite when he finally jumped into the acting world. He starred in movies such as ‘The Social Network’ and ‘Friends with Benefits’. Justin may have started his career at a young age, but he has become one of the most beloved solo artists and actors of our time.
Music Artists/Movie Star #1: Will Smith
Will Smith also began his career at a young age. Smith grew up in middle class Philadelphia, PA and earned the nickname “Prince” because of his charm. He decided to pursue a career in the music industry and began performing in a duo with Jeffrey Townes, a.k.a D.J. Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. When Smith was near-bankruptcy, he met Benny Medina who was inspired by Smith’s upbringing and saw an opportunity for a sitcom. Medina decided to have Smith play himself in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Smith co-wrote and performed the song The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air that opened the show. The sitcom lasted six years and was a huge success for Smith. He continued his acting career in movies such as Bad Boys, Men in Black and Independence Day. Will Smith began as a middle class boy from Philly and grew into a multi-award winning Hollywood movie star and multi-platinum artist.
