The pictures of Tom Cruise on top of the world’s tallest building definitely helped build the hype, but now we’ve seen a movie trailer and the movie poster for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. It’s hard to admit anything other than excitement for the latest installment in the franchise.
After MI2 and MI3, I was really hoping they would just retire poor, old Ethan Hunt. I think I’m about to eat my words.
Ghost Protocol looks like it can match the first movie in terms of action. I was skeptical of director Brad Bird handling this type of material, but from what I’ve seen so far, it looks pretty amazing. Bird is an outstanding director. Don’t get me wrong. But his expertise has been in animation: The Incredibles, Ratatouille.
Perhaps most exciting is the rumor that Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) will be taking over the Mission: Impossible franchise after this film. Cruise has been (more or less) solid as Hunt, but Renner is a fresh face and may breath some life into the brand.
Synopsis: The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization’s name.
Ghost Protocol arrives in theaters December 21 in the US and December 26 in the UK.
