After seeing the first couple of trailers for Biutiful, I knew I was interested – but now the domestic trailer has arrived for Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s (21 Grams, Babel) latest film and I simply can’t wait to see this film!
Starring Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), Biutiful made quite a splash on the film festival circuit and will arrive in theaters December 29, 2010.
Synopsis: Biutiful is a love story between a father and his children. This is the journey of Uxbal, a conflicted man who struggles to reconcile fatherhood, love, spirituality, crime, guilt and mortality amidst the dangerous underworld of modern Barcelona. His livelihood is earned out of bounds, his sacrifices for his children know no bounds. Like life itself, this is a circular tale that ends where it begins. As fate encircles him and thresholds are crossed, a dim, redemptive road brightens, illuminating the inheritances bestowed from father to child, and the paternal guiding hand that navigates life’s corridors, whether bright, bad – or biutiful.
Obviously this isn’t going to be a light-hearted romcom. There won’t be friends sharing laughter and bottles of wine in this one. Iñárritu makes strong, powerful films with jaw-dropping cinematography and emotional storylines.
For his part, Bardem is an incredibly gifted actor who is more than capable of carrying a deep, emotional tale like this one. I haven’t even seen the film yet, but a Best Foreign Film nomination wouldn’t surprise me, simply based on who’s involved and how good this trailer looks.
