Twilight Eclipse Opening Day Tallies $68.5 Million

The numbers are in from The Big Event yesterday, and Twilight Eclipse has set a new Wednesday box office office record – bringing in a whopping $68.5 million on its opening day. While New Moon still holds the record for a single day and opening day total, it also had the luxury of opening on a Friday. New Moon went on to gross $142.8 million during its opening weekend and it seems likely that Eclipse will break that total.

Just how far the David Slade picture can go remains up in the air. Despite a wide variety of critics attacking the film, Deadline reports that Eclipse scored an ‘A’ on its Cinemascore, with 92% of participants rating it an ‘A’ or a ‘B’. With Eclipse showing at 4,416 locations throughout the country, there should be no shortage of venues for fans of the saga to spend their hard earned money.
