I really like single-location films because I think it challenges the director and actor(s) to perform their best. Look no further than Hard Candy, The Cube or even Exam for some good examples. That’s why, when I heard about Ryan Reynolds in a movie that takes place entirely in a coffin, I was very interested. Lionsgate has now released a full trailer for Buried, yet they still haven’t shown us any actual footage from the film.
This could be good or bad. I actually prefer it when the marketing for a film is a little ambiguous. There’s nothing more disappointing than learning all there is to know about a movie just from the trailer. However, they could also be holding back footage because they’re afraid the real stuff won’t drive in audiences – it’s not good footage.
Considering Ryan Reynolds talent and my love for single-location films, I’m pretty optimistic about this one. Check out the trailer after the jump and leave your thoughts in the comments.
Synopsis: Paul Conroy (Reynolds) is not ready to die. But when he wakes up 6 feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival. Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery, and a dwindling oxygen supply become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time- fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only 90 minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare comes true.
Buried hits theaters Oct. 8, 2010.
