Futurama Solid in Comedy Central Debut

Much to the delight of fans everywhere, Futurama is back on the air with brand new episodes airing on Comedy Central every Thursday night. (THIS fan is very delighted!)

Comedy Central released the numbers for the two-episode debut today, and things are looking good. I’m confident, and hopeful that we’ll continue to see Bender, Fry, Leela and the rest for many years to come! Hit the jump to see just how well Futurama Season 6 fared – it was the second best premier for an animated series on cable ever!

Only South Park has enjoyed higher numbers than Futurama in its cable debut. Comedy Central reports that Futurama garnered 2.9 million viewers, with 1.9 million in the 18.49 adult rating. By comparison, Family Guy drew just 2.2 million viewers last week.

Whether viewership will drop off after the debut or grow remains to be seen. The sixth season of Futurama is showing on Comedy Central each week on Thursdays at 10:00 PM EST.
